COURSE: The Horno Ridge Off Road Challenge offers the ultimate in Hard Corps Competition in a cross-country 10K. The course begins at Camp Horno, Home of 1st Marines, and winds up, up, up, into the hills of Camp Pendleton. To start your challenge early, the first mile is uphill, over 500 feet of climbing, to the top of the ridge, then you will follow the ridge on a loop course that takes you past scenic vistas along gently rolling terrain.
SCHEDULE: Race starts at 8:30 am – mass start. Day of race registration & T-shirt pick-up opens at 7:00 a.m.
ENTRY FEES: $30 on or before October 24th, $35 after October 24th or on race day. MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO: MCCS Fund 0140. Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. FREE to Active Duty stationed at Camp Pendleton. Register online or use the printable PDF entry form. All other military pay fees above.
DEADLINES: Mail-in deadline – October 24th, online registration deadline – November 3rd. Register by October 24th to receive your race number and confirmation by mail, free of charge.
RULES: Minimum age for participating is 15 years old. Events are held rain or shine. Entries are non-refundable and non-transferable. Sorry, no dogs, strollers or baby joggers on the course. Liability waiver must be signed by all participants on race morning.
DIRECTIONS: From I-5, exit Basilone Road and enter through the Basilone Gate. Once on base, continue on Basilone Road through the School of Infantry to Camp Horno (approx. 8 miles). Follow “RACE EVENT” signs to the race site. Bring a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and vehicle registration. Allow 30 minutes from the base gate to the race site.
CATEGORIES: Military and Civilian Divisions offer categories for Age Group, Clydesdale (male 200 lbs.+), and Athena (female 160 lbs.+) and Challenged Athlete. Age groups are 15-19 (18-24 military), 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54 (50+ military), 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70+.
RESULTS, AWARDS, POINTS & PHOTOS: Award ceremony will take place once the majority of racers are in. Awards given to the top 3 overall and top 3 in each division. Points for the 2005 Hard Corps Race Series awarded to the top 10 overall males and females in both military and civilian categories. Awards for the overall 2005 Hard Corps Champions will be presented at this event. For the Camp Pendleton Active Duty, points go towards the Commanding General’s Cup.
